Not Seeking Fame and Wealth

Not Seeking Fame and Wealth

Danbomingzhi ningjingzhiyuan (淡泊明志寧靜致遠) means that “not seeking fame and wealth brings tranquility and lets you see far.” Chinese language chop with eight red characters from top to bottom and right to left. The stone was supplied by Nancy who purchased it in a coal producing region of China, where art objects are carved from the material. The top is carved with a pierce-work dragon. Another translation for the phrase is “living tranquilly without seeking fame and wealth [show high ideals by living frugally] gives us the ability to concentrate on the distant.”

“Many people know this but few practice it.” — Wang Gongyi
