Hu Tang

Hu Tang 胡唐 (1759-1826) was born in Xi county, Anhui Province. He was a nephew of Ba Weizu, and was one of the “Four Scholars of the Xi School.” Specially noted for his exquisite craftsmanship which was highly praised by Zhao Zhiqian, who admitted being influenced by him. Two lines in one of Zhao’s poems says, “The great artists of the Anhui and Zhejiang schools can be counted on the fingers. They are Ding Jing, Huang Yi, Deng Shiru, Zhiang Ren, Ba Weizu, Hu Tang and Chen Hongshou.”
